Our Life in Karystos

From time to time people have asked me what is it like living in Karystos.
I put this together to give you a general idea.

Our apartment is located in the northern suburbs of Karystos about one half mile from the beach. We can see the Gulf of Evia from our side terrace and to the rear (north) we have the backdrop of the mountains. Continue reading

The Legend of the Dritsas Bell

Around 1909 Stamati Dritsas was working on the spring located above Marmari, a short distance from his house at the base of Agios Constandinos.
He says that he heard his wife Paraskevi calling him so he left the spring to return to the house to see what she wanted.  She said that she did not call him so he returned to the spring.  As he neared the spring, it collapsed.

Photine Kalogiorgis Pappageorge (Ya Ya)

Photine Kalogiorgis, my Yia Yia, was also known as Francis.
Her husband was Nick Pappageorge
She was born in 1889 and died June 10, 1959.
She was twenty years old in 1909 when she came to the U.S.
